Item #: SCP-XXXX
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is stored in a secure locker at Site-19 when not in use. Outside of authorized research windows, SCP-XXXX is not to be installed on any door.
All research sessions will be conducted by volunteer personnel. As mapping of SCP-XXXX-1 is ongoing, Site-19 command is authorized to designate replacements as needed in the event the volunteer pool is exhausted. Those who have not exited within four hours of their session beginning will be logged as unrecovered.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a brass doorknob, 6 cm in diameter, which shows moderate tarnishing that is consistent with extended use.
When installed on any interior door and turned, it will open to a narrow concrete staircase. This staircase consists of 41 descending steps before terminating at a horizontal corridor, designated SCP-XXXX-1.
SCP-XXXX was recovered from a condemned apartment building in City, STATE following reports of missing residents. Records indicate that 34 residents were present at the time of condemnation, but none were located during Foundation recovery; the building was condemned 11 years prior.
The following is a partial catalogue of SCP-XXXX-1's properties, compiled from volunteer reports before contact was lost.
- Width: Approximately 0.9 meters; shoulders make consistent contact with both walls
- Height: Approximately 1.8 meters; volunteers of above average height report contact with the ceiling
- Walls: Uniform, gray concrete, no markings or openings
- Floor: Concrete, potentially slopes slightly upward
