N.b. Ais’ recommendation in the original post and my and Dagon’s rubberstamping it were not intended as votes; it has come to my attention that some users might have read them as being so. They were not considered in the the original tabulation, nor are they considered here.
Tabulation options
Case 1: Discount indecisive votes entirely
6 months | 1 | Meats |
1 year | 4 | Psi, Estrella, Stormbreath, Whiteguard |
perma | 5 | Nico, Ralliston, Ori, Siddhartha, Jack Waltz |
Case 2: Count ambiguous votes for both punishments:
6 months | 3 | Meats, Ethagon, Yossi |
1 year | 7 | Psi, Ethagon, Yossi, Estrella, Stormbreath, Whiteguard, torcs |
perma | 6 | torcs, Nico, Ralliston, Ori, Siddhartha, Jack Waltz |
Case 3: Count ambiguous vote for lenient punishment only:
6 months | 3 | Meats, Ethagon, Yossi |
1 year | 5 | Psi Estrella, Stormbreath, WhiteGuard, torcs |
perma | 5 | Nico, Ralliston, Ori, Siddhartha, Jack Waltz |
Case 4: Count ambiguous votes for strictest punishment only:
6 months | 1 | Meats |
1 year | 6 | Psi, Ethagon, Yossi, Estrella, Stormbreath, WhiteGuard |
perma | 6 | torcs, Nico, Ralliston, Ori, Siddhartha, Jack Waltz |
Result: Case 1 results in a plurality for perma, Case 2 results in a plurality for one year, Case 3 and 4 result in ties.
However, no case results in a tabulation where 50% of staff vote for a perma. In all other cases, the majority of staff voted for a punishment less than a perma — the votes were just split on whether a year or 6 months, resulting in perma tying or winning by plurality.
